Deep within the captivating rolling hills, dwelt a shepherd boy. His existence was mostly unadulterated, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was to look after his flock of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the breezes across the solo tree on the peak were his only associates. Day upon day, looking out for his responsibilities imbued in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.

However, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. During one such occasion from sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a naughty scheme.

Narratives of wild beasts prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to help but found nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This game continued for a couple of more days. However, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no website one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of false alarms.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
